Field Experience: Journal of Play Observations (15 points; Due Session 8) (AP- a.1, a.2) (InTASC- Learner Development; Knowledge of Subject Matter; NAEYC: 1 Child Development, 5 Curriculum, 6 Professionalism) This activity provides opportunities to observe children’s behaviors and interactions in different settings.

Beginning in Week 1 through Week 7, start a journal of observations of play events happening in your neighborhood, classroom, school and community. Include the following in your journal: – Journal entries – Include notes and observations about play events, planned activities where children engage in play-based experiences. Note and enter comments on how those play events and activities contribute to building knowledge across curricular areas. -Reflections- For each week activity, include a written reflection (See Reflection Form in this syllabus). Compile all the field experiences and share in class. o Summary of experiences: Description of what you learned about children, the arts, and movement experiences (What are the implications from these experiences on the process of teaching young children? How do these contribute to building knowledge related to academic areas?)
