Shooting an Elephant is a short story by George Orwell which gives an account of how he was caught up in a situation more of a dilemma than anything else in Moulmein, Lower Burma. He lives with the Burmans who detested him at all cost and at one time had to make the greatest decision whether to kill an elephant gone rogue against his will. He finally succumbs to the pressure to kill the poor animal not because he wanted to but because it was the general expectation of the people depending on him and watching him perform the evil according to his deep conscience.
